BeMyGuest Taipei is a cooking school for those who want to experience the truly Taiwanese culture. We are located at Dadaocheng, a historic Taipei city center area, with a lot of cultural and traditional gems.
Join Alex on a journey through the alleys of Dadaocheng, the historic heart of Taipei. As you wander through this vibrant area, you'll hear local stories and gossip while making your way to a traditional market. Along the way, you'll discover an array of local ingredients, have the chance to taste authentic traditional delicacies, and chat directly with local vendors to deepen your appreciation of Taiwanese culture.
Youfan (Oil Rice, Taiwanese Risotto): Also known as Taiwanese Risotto due to its similar cooking method to Italian risotto, this traditional Taiwanese dish is made with glutinous rice, dried shrimp, mushrooms, and pork, all seasoned with soy sauce, and other flavors. Originally gifted to celebrate a newborn's first month, its rich flavor and heartiness made it a favorite breakfast among laborers and eventually a beloved dish across Taiwan.
Cai Tou Gong Wan Tang (Daikon Radish and Meatball Soup): This comforting soup showcases the wisdom of Taiwanese mothers, as its simple ingredients—daikon radish and meatballs—complement each other perfectly, creating a flavor that embodies the warmth of a mother’s touch. Even if you're far from Taiwan, this dish will envelop you in the heartwarming spirit of Taiwanese culture.
