Apparently, it was Jin's first experience with having practicing Muslims as her customers, and there was some last-minute adjustment to the ingredients used for the noodles, but all in all, it was a very smooth and engaging experience! We are inexperienced cooks, but Jin and her coworker very patiently and gently guided us through our sticky pastry dough and misremembered steps 🤣
1) The homemade pineapple jam they provided for the pastries was so good. Beyond souvenir quality, it tasted way better than the ones we bought later to bring back home 🤣
2) Jin thoughtfully provided us with some chilies, of which i used liberally of. So, the customization of the meal was also a great point! (For the halal aspect, she swapped out the chicken for dried tofu, and the main lard-fried-shallots with vegetable-oil-fried-shallots.)
3) The lei tea is very unique! It's a definite must-try. It seems very healthy for your gut. It pairs perfectly with the pineapple pastries btw.
4) Jin and her coworker are very friendly and had many interesting stories to tell! Her personal experiences of life, and also of the Hakka people's lifestyle.
And as mentioned by many reviewers, the cats were very lovely too! Jin jokingly referred to them as her "naughty roommates who she probably owed in a past life", but we can feel the love 😚💕
