I came to the class with my three teenage children. All of us had an awesome time. We have done six different tours/classes over two weeks in Vietnam, and this was definitely the best. LOVED the buffalo ride, great farming experience, fantastic cooking lesson with recipes I can definitely cook at home in Australia. We will definitely come back to Vietnam to return to this farm and visit this amazing family.
A great experience full of fun and food. Xuan picked us up at our hotel and we bicycled to the market where she explained about the market history and all the different food. A leisurely bicycle to the farm and walk around to see the different herbs. The down to business…. cooking. Our group had a great time, with Xuan including everyone and carefully guiding us all through the process. I'm not a chef but I was very pleased with my creations, learned a lot and had heaps of fun. Thanks, Xuan and the gang.
I had a fantastic afternoon at the vegetable village. The place was so beautiful and peaceful and they show you the traditional way of farming in the garden. Uyen was a fantastic guide and taught me a lot about life and culture in Vietnam, which was a great and memorable experience to me. After a visit to a local market, we cooked spring rolls, papaya salad, fish and rice pancakes together. One of my highlights was the bicycle ride through the local rice fields. Overall this was one of the most authentic experiences in Vietnam so far and I strongly recommend it. It is a great opportunity to escape the busy cities and get some fresh air in the beautiful and quiet vegetable and flower gardens.
Our family had so much fun at Tra Que. We cycled, rode a water buffalo, had a ride in a boat, did some farming, made some rice paper, did a cooking class and sang some songs! Everyone was so friendly and full of happiness. The whole experience was one of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam. Thank you! Keep spreading your joy and happiness! :-)
We had a fun time planting some herbs in the garden, learning about the farm, and then enjoying a massage before cooking some delicious food. I really can't stress enough how Jessica's sense of humor and cleverness made our day really fun - she is a great host!
What an experience, we travelled to Tra Que Village from our hotel cycling and navigating through the city traffic of Hoi An with kids in tow. I was a bit nervous at first since it’s been probably about 10 years since the last time I rode a bike, especially with my 8-year-old son on the back but I must say it was fun. We a family of 4 had plenty of laughs and really enjoyed the tour. Hopefully, the bok choy we helped plant in the vegetable garden will grow healthy in the next 6 months. Our tour guide Kun was amazing. What a breath of fresh air she was. From the moment she picked us up from our hotel to the cooking class we had with her and Kun showing the kids how they made rice paper rolls she was patient and just lovely. Overall we enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend it to family and friends
Even in the pouring rain, we had a terrific time here. We were picked up at our Hoi An hotel by bicycle & biked through the Old Quarter of Hoi An until, poof, we were out in the countryside (& poof, that's when the pouring rain started!). We were given big ponchos, non las & sandals, which made the rain more of an adventure than an obstacle &, thereafter, paddled out onto the river in one of the "uncle's" round basket boats, learned about the fishing/snailing (can it be called that?), water coconuts (made a wedding ring from coconut leaf), & got to paddle a bit. We chose not to ride the "family's" water buffalo being that it was raining so hard & instead took a wonderful tasting tour through the herb gardens (still in the rain) & got to sample Thai basil, coriander, cilantro, hot peppers plants, mint & more. We also got to help one of the "uncles" prepared the soil for planting spinach seedlings & watched as he watered the garden with the coolest double-watering-cans-on-a-pole. Back @ the Water Wheel, we got heavenly neck, shoulder & foot massages by two "cousins" (So nice!) & then learned about how to grind rice flour & rice paper-making over a special oven. Because we had learned so much about herbs & rice paper, we began our fun & yummy cooking class, using these ingredients & knowledge. We prepared a 3 Friends dish (shrimp, carrot, coriander & mint rolled in a ring of scallion), also cooked rice paper pancakes & more, until we sat down for our just-prepared lunch, which was SO fresh & so wonderful. Dessert & after-lunch conversation with the owner of the Water Wheel, Mrs. Thuong, were equally enjoyable & added such a personal touch to a very wet, but thoroughly perfect day here. (At the end, we biked back to our hotel in yes, the pouring rain)
This was the best cooking class I have ever done! Sun (not sure how to spell it, but it sounds like “soon”) was our guide and was the BEST. She was from the local village of Tra Que, so she was very knowledgeable about the area and local life and cuisine. It included a bike ride through the country and rice fields, 4 dishes, a tour of a small, local food market, and a tour of the Tra Que farm. We were the only 2 in the group, so we had a great, personalized experience. The local garden that we toured was incredible and beautiful. Great way to support a small village and family and get away from some of the main touristy activities like the basket boats. Available vegetarian.
We had a very enjoyable experience. and our guide Kun was a great communicator in explaining the process of making rice paper and the names of all the herbs. We especially liked making the 3 friends spring rolls and rice paper. Lunch was most delicious.
We first spent around 45 minutes in the market learning about the different produce, herbs and spices. After a 15 minute bike ride we arrived at the class, greeted by our Master Chef, who guided us through 5 dishes. It was one of the best, if not the best meals we had in Hoi An (and we were in Hoi An for 3 weeks and had many great meals). Then surprisingly, we were given foot massages after speaking our feet in an herb bath. Unreal. We learned so much and had so much fun, we'd do it again.
This is the only family run cooking class in Hoi an, and they really treat you like a guest in their own home. Tucked away in a peaceful organic farm we got to cook four different kinds of traditional Vietnamese cooking. We enjoyed every single dish and we left their very satisfied! Our teacher was Ha was full of life and energy and her jokes definitely kept everyone laughing. I would highly recommend this cooking class to anyone looking for an authentic experience!
It started with a visit to the local market to buy some fresh products , then a short bicycle ride to the « herbs village ». Fresh drink, then nice head and feet massage to prepare for the class. After some vegetable sculpting, we cooked 4 different dishes, tasteful and good-looking. Very enjoyable experience with a smiling teacher 😋🙏
Great day with Nga and Gun visiting the market, touring the farm fields and learning to cook four great dishes. Highly recommended.
My husband, local guide and I arrived to Tra que by bicycle, which is a great way to see the countryside. We were met by Jessica who took us in and made us feel comfortable from the start. She was funny, bright and super engaging. We began our experience by learning how the family organically farms all the ingredients we would be using in our cooking class. We learned how they cultivate, prepare, plant and water their crops. As we walked along the garden beds Jessica taught us the names and uses of many of the plants. Then, it was time to cook! We exchanged our farming outfits for chef toques and aprons. Jessica taught us how to grind rice to make the batter for rice paper. One of the women then taught us how to make the thin rice paper wrapper use for making spring rolls. We sang songs while waiting for the wraps to steam. We made beautiful tasty dishes and laughed so hard! It was truly a unique and fun way to learn about the culture and food of Vietnam. They went out of their way to make our time there enjoyable, comfortable and entertaining. Everything was clean and orderly. We were never rushed or hurried. We’ve done cooking classes in Morocco, Italy, and France but this one by far outshone the others. I highly recommend making Tra que Water wheel cooking school part of your Hoi An itinerary.
Such an enjoyable experience, we had so much fun and enjoyed meeting this lovely family. The food we cooked was amazing . Would highly recommend doing this cookery class.
My boyfriend and I had a really nice experience at Tra Que Water Wheel cooking class. We took a bike ride to the property, went to a local morning market in Hoi An, enjoyed a herbal foot bath/massage, toured around the herb gardens and made lots of delicious food - all with a private guide. The guide was really funny and everything went great. The price was a bit expensive compared to other experiences in Vietnam, but after the class I felt that it was worth the money. I especially loved that our guide taught us all about the different fruits, vegetables and herbs used in Vietnamese cuisine.
We had an interesting day! Shopping at the market was interesting, so some of the foods just leave you wondering as we had not heard about them or knew how they would taste from looking at them. The cooking class itself was very well prepared and structured, Jessica our Chef funny and nice. The food was really nice and we had good company. Would definitely recommend the experience!
We had a fab day here today with the family, as a last minute thing. We did some farming ;) planting and exploring the beautiful produce in the gardens and then it was master chef time! We made 4 delicious local dishes. Xuan was our lovely cheeky host & we had a ball all afternoon while learning some great recipes. Thoroughly enjoyable and a highlight of our trip! A great family day out with lovely people! ❤ A must do in Hoi An!
So much more than we expected. Short bike ride to a local market where she introduced us to many of the foods used based on our likes/interest, Soon bought some fruits and vegetables to add to the lunch menu. Then a lovely ride through the rice fields to Tra Que village. Water buffalo ride was short but fun. Wandering around their farm.and tasting/smelling the different plants. Planting a small garden plot. Lovely foot massage. Short but fun boat ride - amazing what can be made from palm leaves. Making rice paper was really cool. Cooking class fun and informative. Food delicious. Would recommend very highly!!!!
The cooking class was more than I expected. Lovely tourist guide, we had an amazing time and also got a massage when we arrived at the village. You have to do this one!!
We had a great time and very much enjoyed our experience, leaving with full stomachs and new skills! We were provided with bikes and collected from our hotel- we lived riding through town the through the rice paddies to the cooking school. The market tour probably went longer than it needed to, and would have been interesting to learn more about the market history and lives of the vendors rather than focussing on the vegetable and food varieties. The family was incredibly friendly and hospitable and it was a memorable way to spend a day in Hoi An.
We loved the cooking class. Ha (I probably write it wrong) was super sweet and enthusiastic. She explained everything very well, first on the market and later in the kitchen. We got a massage after the cooking class, which was a surprise and for us not really necessary. Amazing experience!
The package was fun and informative. We enjoyed all of the many activities. Our guide was very friendly and we learnt a lot about the Vietnamese way of life. A highlight for my daughter was the water buffalo interaction. She loved him and we were allowed plenty of time to ride and pet him, not rushed on at all. The cooking was fun and food delicious. Will be recommending this tour to everyone.
Our time at the water wheel with Ha was like paradise on Earth and was our best experience in Vietnam. We were only 4 people in the class, we went to the market with Ha who showed us all the fruits, spices and local dishes and answered all our questions. We prepared 4 delicious dishes per person. We got a tour of the splendid herbs garden and finally had a back and foot massage. Ha and her family as much excited as we were and answered all our questions! Everyone was super friendly. We'll for sure try to come back and recommend to our friends and family.
The market and the garden Village was a nice and interesting experience. Our hosting was fun and sweet, and the recipes we're delicious. All together it was a really beatiful day. I would highly recommend this cooking class.
An amazing and authentic experience. They where so good at explaining about the traditional vegetable village and the organic farming. They showed us around in the garden, and you got to try different local Vietnamese herbs. The location of the cooking class is amazing - you cook with the view of the vegetable village surrounded by beautiful flowers.
