Immerse yourself in the Lao cuisine of Luang Prabang. Discover the complexities of Luang Prabang’s traditional food and the role food plays in the Luang Prabang Way of Life. Some recipes taught in our class originate from Phia Sing, the former Royal chef of Luang Prabang. We are not giving you recipes and know-how, but you will have the opportunity to explore the Luang Prabang way of life centred around Lao slow food culture in a heritage house setting. Fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients are the focus of Lao cuisine. You will take the recipes and cooking methods home with you.

Visit our historic house’s exhibits to learn more about Lao customs, ceremonies, and cuisine
Tour our garden to pick fresh herbs for the cooking class
Learn how to make bowls and containers from banana leaves
Learn the fundamentals of Lao cooking including steaming sticky rice
Prepare a jaew condiment using seasonal ingredients
Create more complex dishes such as laap, au lam, and Luang Prabang salad
Finish with creating a Lao dessert
Enjoy the fruits of your labour

Cronograma

9:00 am: Meeting point at Heuan Chan Heritage House. Welcome with our home-made welcome drink
9:05 am: Visit Heuan Chan History House Museum.
9:30 am: Take a garden tour
10:00 am: Learn how to make bowl and container from banana leaf
10:30 am: Cooking Session
12:30 pm: Lunch
1:30 pm: End of the class

"Excellent cooking class. Would highly recommend it"

We enjoyed the tour of the traditional Lao house. Lee was very welcoming and provided us with a pot of bael tea to start. The grounds are beautiful; cooler due to the abundant foliage, aesthetically lovely. We struggled through the weaving but the gem of the experience was the older gentleman who taught us to weave. Thong Meu (sp) was an excellent cooking teacher as was Air (sp) who was her translator and our guide there. We loved the 5 course menu and made both meat and vegetarian selections. A joy to share our meal with staff.

"Good class"

The class was good, but at first we do a lot of other things, which was interesting, but I wasn't expecting, that it would be that much. I would like to do more cooking. Nice people and location.

"A lovely experience, all around"

Everything about the class was great! From the venue (in the garden kitchen of a beautiful house), to the teacher who was charming and very patient, to the variety and number of dishes prepared our experience was excellent. We would greatly recommend this class to anyone looking to find out more about the elaborate Lao kitchen!
