Our tea ceremony offers an island of calm in the bustling heart of Higashiyama. Conveniently located a short walk from Kiyomizu Temple, the Ninenzaka neighborhood is also filled with traditional houses, shops, and restaurants.
At the start of your session, your instructor will welcome you with a brief introduction to the history and culture of tea, before performing the tea ceremony. You will discover the culture and history behind the tea ceremony itself, and you can ask your instructor any questions throughout the session.
After being served wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), you will even get to make your own bowl of frothy Matcha under the guidance of your instructor.
Note: You can rent a kimono for an additional cost — we have a partnership with a kimono rental store, Yume Kyoto, which is just a one minute away. Guests to our tea ceremony will receive a discount from 5000 to 3000 yen, and it'll take an hour for staff to dress you in the kimono. As the store closes at 5:30pm, the last tea ceremony with kimono option starts at 4pm. Please make this request upon booking.
We have 8 sessions a day at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Each session lasts 45 minutes.
