Other than terrific and an exceptional experience, what else can one say. The staff was professional, polished, and personable. Our Dada (the top chef) was very clear on all that we had to do, and was patient with everyone. All our dishes were exquisitely executed and completed with all the guidance that was presented. I know that all of will be able to return home and repeat all of these delicious menu ideas. I had a marvelous time!
This half day cooking workshop led by Wafa, was superb. It was very well organised from the moment we arrived right the way through to eating the meal we had cooked. The setup of the kitchen, with tv screens per 2 people, ensure you don’t miss any instruction. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The staff were always on hand to help and answer questions and no one felt left out or overwhelmed. This a a great experience for any age who would like to learn about Moroccan food, its heritage, spices and influences. A big thank you to Wafa, the star teacher who is very friendly and has excellent knowledge!
The cooking class takes place at a very nice location in the Medina of Marrakech. It starts with a short introduction to dishes and spices and the preparation of tea the morrocan way. During the cooking class everyone has his own station, so all the steps are executed by everyone, which I like very much. The chefs were very lovely and helpful, everything was explained very well. And the dishes came out very tasty, I liked what I have cooked 😉 Highly recommended!
Very well organised and executed. Fatiha was both professional and personal. It was my first cooking class in another country and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Would highly recommend
The venue was beautiful; the cooking facility was modern and clean; the teacher was amazing as was the translator; and our food came our truly delicious. One of the best cooking classes I have ever done (and I have done many all over the world).
Myself and my partner had an amazing time with the team. The host was so kind and helpful, likewise with the lovely chef. Highly recommended to anybody who wants to cook some authentic Moroccan cuisine and then enjoy it afterwards.
There were four of us on this one hour cookery course and it was brilliant. I am vegetarian with a gluten intolerance, which was catered for. The kitchen was inviting and laid out well. The teachers were patient and helpful and the tea ceremony was also good. And we all ended up with a tasty meal to eat upstairs in the restaurant.
Perfect location and very friendly staff
Un’esperienza straordinaria che ho rifatto per la seconda volta una volta con mio figlio e questa volta con tutto il mio team di lavoro eravamo in otto ci siamo divertiti Personale straordinario consigliato a tutti
We loved our cooking workshop. It was the highlight of our trip to Marrakech. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning about Moroccan food & trying out new dishes.
The cooking course is an experience in itself: a well-equipped kitchen with individual workstations, where everyone prepares their own dishes. In our case, two salads and a tagine. The cooks were not only extremely competent but also cheerful and entertaining. The entire course was well-structured, and you were guided step by step through the recipes. In addition, we made a dessert and cookies together. After the meal, we all received a small tagine and a certificate. In summary, a nice and entertaining experience, where you not only learned something but also prepared really delicious dishes.
Our host Mohammed was great, very knowledgeable and English was easy to understand. He was also able to switch into several other languages, including French. We cooked 3 courses of delicious food and learnt lots about local traditions and how to use the spices with different tagine dishes. Would recommend.
I learned how to make tagine and some side dishes. It was super fun and informative!
Une très belle et très sympathique expérience avec l'équipe qui nous a accueilli. Les installations sont vraiment top, la chef extra et le personnel au petit soin. Une très belle expérience pour une approche de plats simple. Je recommande vivement ce cours de cuisine.
A surprisingly great class, the details and background to the dishes and teas were detailed. The timings were exact. The people were great and enthusiastic to teach. I would recommend.
The instructor was fantastic! The recipe was amazing. I especially appreciated all of the additional tips like making tea.
This class was really good very professional and super clean. You can tell this establishment designed this experience to cater. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling as good as I wanted, so I didn't eat the food, besides a few bites. But they provided really nice recipe cards to make everything at home
We had the most amazing cooking class, learning how to make chicken tagine with preserved lemon. Wafa was the perfect hostess, teaching us about Moroccan spices, customs, and food. She was also extremely knowledgeable and friendly throughout. She was great. Fatima was our wonderful chef. Her guidance and instructions helped us make the perfect dish. It was delicious and such a fun experience! It was The highlight of the trip, and I will do it again on my next visit to Marrakech!!
Wafa, the host, was clear, informative, fun, and encouraging. The facility was also very cool, clean, and modern with screens along the station where we students were to be able to see the cooking techniques clearly in detail despite her being all the way at the front of the class. The food was so tasty, I eventually bought a cookbook and a tajine bowl :) Highly recommend this activity. It is a relaxing and cool (temperature and otherwise) way to spend your time. Oh yes, we did the express class which was enough time to make a full chicken tajine sauce.
Excellent staff, especially our host Wafa, modern, oriental, nice and clean kitchen. We had a small group of four people, so it felt like a private course. Great value for money, it is definitely worth it. When we come to Marrakech next time, we will book another course here. Best choice in Marrakech. Emina and Martin
Absolutely great cooking class. Wafa, the teacher, was great - she taught us about the different spices, tajine, and how to prepare the food. She had two wonderful ladies helping us too.
A great introduction to Moroccan cooking - really appreciated the fact that we could do this in just an hour as we weren't in Marrakech for long so didn't want to spend half a day. Very professional set up, they quickly accommodated for a vegetarian in the party. Overall great experience.
I would definitely recommend this class to friends and family visiting Marrakech.
The class was super fun and people are very helpful and nice
We've taken many cooking classes in different countries around the world and this was the most high-tech. By "high-tech", I mean each cooking station had a dedicated video screen that showed what the instructor was doing. It was very cool and something we'd never seen before. The venue was beautiful and the cooking class staff was wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves.
The whole experience was very professional and educational. Especially after eating tagine for over a week it was nice to learn to cook it.
Organizzata in maniera eccellente. Versamente gentili.
A remarkable treat for those who like to cook and those who don`t. You get a good perspective on the spices and ingredients used in Morocco food, and learn how to cook a main dish, two salads, bread and even a dessert. And to eat in the sumptuous La Maison Arabe. Simo, the morrocan Gordon Ramsay, did a great (and funny) "Hell`s Kitchen style" introductio, and chef Fathia was the perfect maestrina. If you go to Marrakesh you should try this one.
Class was interesting for all attending- children to a professional chief. For experienced cooks, the mixture of spices was most interesting. The food was delicious.
Went to Maison Arabe on a previous visit to Morocco, and came back with my parents. The setup was the same, which was perfect! You cook a tagine, and an aubergine/ eggplant side dish. Even amateur cooks can follow. Would recommend to anyone visiting Marrakesh. It’s an easy journey from the Medina. The tea ceremony and bread baking are the icing on the top!
They take you to this amazing garden where they are a space inside to cook and it was really an amazing experience
Well organised, professional and friendly information and guidance to cook a lovely Moroccan meal. I would definitely do this again and highly recommend.
Had a great experience is this cooking class. The hotel is beautiful and the recipes we made were easy and they tasted amazing. 100% recommend this experience if you are looking for a cooking class in marrekech.
I somehow convinced my husband, who doesn’t do these kind of things, to join me on this cooking class. He was very pleasantly surprised and glad he did it! We both found it exciting, fun, funny and educational. This was a great way to be introduced to Moroccan food. While I would say I’m an awesome cook anyway (also, it explains my husband’s big belly 😉), but all the food we cooked was delicious. I an grateful for the recipes and learning experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
We attended the 3 hour class and it was absolutely excellent. The people I went with said it was the highlight of our trip to Morocco.
At short notice Cookly secured our family of 6 places in the famous La Maison Arabe cooking workshop. We had been trying with no luck for a week but Maureen made it happen. We arrived for our 3 hour afternoon workshop. The Moroccan Dada (chef) was accompanied by an English translator. We began by looking at herbs and spices used in Moroccan cooking, then had a mint tea ceremony. The kitchen included modern work stations with overhead CCTV to help. We prepared a tagine and two salads, and watched dessert being prepared. Then we enjoyed our labour as a group afterwards for dinner. Wonderful gift of a terracotta tagine and recipe cards presented to each chef to end the workshop. We all agreed it was a great experience.
The way into a man’s heart is said to be via his stomach but on our cookery course at la Maison Arabe we found that one way into the heart of another culture is via its cuisine. Our Morrocan cuisine course was hosted by the delightful and super-positive Wafa. After arriving at La Madison Arabe Hotel, we were transported to The hotel’s beautiful Country Club in L’Palmarie district at the edge of Marrakech. The course took place in a nicely appointed, purpose made and modern facility with a lovely garden. Wafa first gave us some kind words of welcome before giving us a short insight into the cultural significance of cuisine in Morrocan society and a history of the fascinating peoples that have mixed together over time here to create the wonderful and vibrant society that is modern Morocco. With a friendly team lead by chef Houda we were first invited to learn about the significant art of tea making, with its complex technique, exotic fresh ingredients and traditional ceremony. After this we were taking our not the ‘classroom’ which was more like the set of one of the cookery shows on TV but with a sumptuous, Moroccan vibe, Here with the aid of Wafa and chef Houda, we were guided through demonstrations on various fascinating topics, culminating in our own chance to prepare a full and authentic (and even in my own case) delicious tasting chicken Tagine. All of the lucky participants had a hugely enjoyable time and came away from the course with a real insight into Moroccan cuisine and with the basic skills to add a little Arabic flavour into our own lives. My partner, Sheila and I enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I were thrilled to be able to participate in this Moroccan cooking course after signing up at the last minute! The staff and chef were very knowledgeable and were able to communicate/instruct in English clearly. After explaining what Moroccan cuisine consists of and it’s origins, our instructor showed us the spices and herbs essential to many of the dishes. Then we were treated to a tea ceremony. Next, we headed upstairs for the hands on cooking portion. We observed making the traditional bread and making the custard for dessert. Step by step instructions for creating our own tagine, cooked salad and raw salad. Very organized and pre-prepped for smooth assembly of each dish. Finally, we were served our own meals in a beautiful dining environment. A truly fabulous experience! We totally recommend this cooking course! 5 stars!
Loved every detail, the tea demonstrastion was very interesting and the food was easy to make and turned out delicious.
The food was good but what really made the class was Hasna & Habiba. They are so friendly and so kind they really made it a great experience. If you want to do a cooking class in Marrakech this is the only one to choose.
Hasna is an excellent host, who explained the history, theory and style of cooking elegantly We had a class of 8 people which was just right and it was fun interesting and of course the food tasted amazing I will totally recommend this class to anyone... Good job by all
Could not have been better
Before the class we were taken to see a public oven. That was so interesting. The class itself was great. We cooked chicken tajine and it was the best chicken tajine I had in my 19 days of travel throughout Morocco. The class was also well organised, everyone was helpful and it was held in a beautiful room. Each person cooked for himself/herself.
What a fabulous afternoon we had! Our group was small( only 3 students) First we were expertly guided through Moroccan customs, like the tea ceremony or cooking a Tagine in a public oven and collection and use of Moroccan spices by the lovely Yomna who accompanied us all afternoon as our translated. Her English is impeccable her manner gentle and kind. The kitchen was beautiful, spotless and well equipped as one would have expected from such an institution. The cooking lesson was run by the experienced and kind Dada Habiba. She lovingly guided us through all the required steps of chopping, frying and seasoning of a ‘Chicken Tagine with preserved Lemons’ and two salads. She also demonstrated how to make the bread and how to preserve lemons. She was fully concentrated on us and was very encouraging. Time went by way too fast, we had so much fun and I would love to see an extension of the program to different courses, and perhaps a full day course so I can return to learn more on my next visit to the beautiful Marrakesh. A very special surprise followed when we had finished the cooking - apart from a certificate we also received a present of a clay Tagine pot. I can’t wait to put into action what I have learnt as soon as I return back home to England. At the end we were served our “ creation” by a waiter of the main restaurant, and he even packt half of my meal so I could take it away and share it with my husband. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you to all staff of Maison l’Arabe for a fantastic, informative and enjoyable afternoon in this beautiful environment.
A cookery class in La Maison Arabe has been on our list for the past year, especially as something to enjoy with my husband who does very little cooking. I am a chef and cookery teacher but often impatient to teach him. I love food and how it beings people together. We had an amazing time and although I teach people how to cook with spices and also Moroccan cuisine, we were very happy to learn about how Moroccans eat at home, new things like the proper way to make Maghrebi mint tea - so much so that we have now become mint tea snobs and judged all other teas we were served elsewhere by the standard of that which we were served at the cookery class. Hasna was a great host and Dada Fatiha was such fun. The cookery school is very professional yet relaxed. We couldn’t stop telling everyone about it and convinced our friend, (Livie) who attended a few days later. We hope to be back soon for different classes especially in the country club cookery school and to bring many more friends along. This is a must try in Marrakech.
Amazing experience learning the art of morrocan tea and morrocan cooking in a beautiful kitchen. The class was fun and relaxed and it was a pleasure to sit and enjoy our cooking with fellow attendees.
Hasna and Fatiha were awesome instructors, always keeping any on us and making sure we didnt forget to smile. The class was fast paced, but very organized so no one was left behind, nor were you waiting around for someone to catch up. I loved having my own little work station. The final product was both beautiful and tasty! The tea and tour at the beginning and the meal with all the students at the end completed the experience. I'm so glad I took this class.
Absolutely fantastic, professional, fun and delicious. Compliments to the chef and to Yomna who made my birthday very memorable and special
Everything was well planned and beautiful. Venues were perfect, modern and beautiful. Cooking was eaay and fun, but you also learnes a lot. Personnal were friendly and professional.
A wonderful 3 hours learning about the country, spices, and of course the cooking. Lovely set up and all the staff were very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and above accommodating to all age groups. Will definitely recommend to any friends visiting Marrakech.
It was a very well organized and executed workshop. The leader Hasna and the chef Habibia were excellent. They were professional and friendly, and they conducted the workshop efficiently and made it fun to learn. I really enjoyed this workshop.
Class was very well organised, we have been taken by private coach to an oasis outside of the city walls, with beautiful gardens and cooking school. Class was led by local professor of English language, we started class with introductions to moroccan cuisine and it’s history, preparation of mint tea with herbs and making of local bread in clay oven in outside kitchen and of course sampling!!! Then we went to indoor kitchen to make almond cookies, Chicken Tagine, tomato salad and aubergine dip all absolutely delicious!!!
Lovely way to spend the afternoon making traditional food Very pleasant staff and nice surroundings
Our entire family took this class including 3 teenagers. We all had a blast. We all feel quite proud of ourselves for creating such a delicious meal. Having left Morocco only 2 days ago, we are already talking about trying to re-create our meal for dinner.
Fantastic well organised cooking class with great hosts! Top facilities and highly recommended :)
The staff were very friendly and helpful, spoke and understood English perfectly . They made the experience really lovely. Would highly recommend.
Learned so much in our cooking class from all the teachers and really enjoyed the class and it's set-up, so fancy with the tv screens to watch as we cooked. The food was fabulous! We just got home yesterday and are already seasoning our new tajine pots that were gifted to us to test out the recipes. I highly recommend the class!
Our. Lass was completely full. Very diverse group. The dadas were so helpful and kind. The teacher/leader very clear engaging and funny! We learned, we laughed and then we ate and drank together. 10 out 10!
You made my experience in Marrakech complete. It was so much fun, I learned so much and it tasted great. I will definitely be cooking some Moroccan when I get home.
The dadas were great fun and incredibly kind. It was such a great experience to learn about spices, culture, cuisine and typical Moroccan meals. The kitchen is very modern with screens to watch the dadas and great utensils. I can only recommend this class!
Great setting, well informed and friendly instructors, delicious recipes! A must if you love to cook or just eat.
My friend and I absolutely loved this class! Super modern and high tech equipment with individual tv screens. Cooking instructor was a real hoot and a half, so much sass (“YALLAYALLAYALLA everybodyyyy”). Highly recommend!
Instructor Youseff was great and explained everything with great detail including all the different slices that are used. We got to make 3 dishes and tried them all for a nice lunch. I feel confident I can go home and make a tagine! The gift tagine was an added bonus and saved us a trip to the souks. HIGHLY recommend to anyone trying to learn about about Morrocan cooking.
Entertaining and informative...
The express cooking class is excellent! It’s well-organized and informative. The instructor and chef are amazing. I would highly recommend this to all. A must-do in Marrakech!
So, choosing this cooking class was a second choice. I initially opted to participate in an open air cooking class but my plans changed and I had to select La Maison Arabe instead. I am so glad I did. I had a lovey talk with Prof. Mohamed before the rest of the group arrived. When they arrived, he led a talk about different recipes. In addition to a tea ceremony, we also had a short tour to see how a community bakery/oven works. When we returned, we started our cooking class, which was absolutely wonderful. We were in a beautiful state of the art oven with individual stations. On our arrival, our station was already set up with tools and ingredients and we were loaned aprons for us to use as we follow Prof. Mohamed and Ayeola, our Dada. Though it was awesome, I was so tired but Prof. Mohamed helped me whenever I needed it. After we finished, we were escorted downstairs and our meal was served. The meal was amazing, if I say so myself. The group I cooked with were wonderful as well, so it made such a difference; Good food, Good people, good conversation! In reading some of the other reviews, I realized we did not get a chance to hear a lot about the different spices and their use, but none the less, the experience was amazing. Next time, I will take my kids to Morocco to share this wonderful experience.
This class is probably the most high-end cooking class you will ever take. Top of the line Bosch cooking stations with video tv screens where they demonstrate the cooking techniques, quality spices, and separate sinks between each of the stations and attention to cleanliness. But most importantly, the food has to come out delicious, which it did. You can say "complements to the chef" (you) and mean it.
The facility was excellent! Everyone had their own cooking station. Loved the class.!
We loved this experience. We met a la maison Arab in town and they drove us to the country house 15-20min away. Started with a bread demonstration, then on to the cooking. Showed the different spices and how to cook lemon chicken taking with two different salads. Which we feasted on at the end. Highly recommend
Great host and teacher. Gave a tanjine to everyone. Modern cooking environment with cameras and TVs so you can watch what the chef is doing. Good class size.
Wonderful experience. The class was well organized and the kitchen was beautiful and the whole experience was lovely. Highly recommend
Great class, good information given by instructor and fun practical session. Excellent facilities with very modern cooking equipment (knifes could have been A LOT sharper but realise that this is for health and safety reasons!). Youngest member of group was 11yr old girl who was by all means very independent for her age, but the tutor made her feel very special and helped when needed (chopping, operating stove etc). Nice enjoyable meal at the end rasting our own tagines and side "salads" which were very tasty and simple recipes. Only thought for inprovement from us is that the instructor could maybe have a microphone as at some points with fans and other kitchen noises it was quite difficult to hear our instructions, but the TVs at each station provided good visual instruction also!
Really informative, fun and great value for money - would recommend during your time in Marrakesh
It was a wonderful half day we spent at the cooking class. Well organised, lovely team, beautiful environment, amazing experience. Thanks a lot! ;)
This course is a must if you in Marrakech and love cooking and Morrocan food. The instructor, Hasna, was excellent and speaks English and French. Her explanations on Moroccan cooking and various techniques and ingredients were clear and easy to follow. The location and facilities were first rates and we had a great time making tajines, salads, and bread. We then all sat down together and ate what we cooked for lunch with some excellent Moroccan wine. There were participants from all over Europe and we had a great time to share stories and enjoy the results of our cooking. Thoroughly recommended.
Wonderful experience! Enjoyed the tea preparation, spice 101 class (with a few tips on how to use spices as natural remedies) and the tour to the local community baker. The cooking portion was very informative and enjoyable. I feel confident I can introduce friends and family to the dishes at home. It was a pleasure to be directed by the Dada. The meal at the end was very enjoyable and the conversation was fantastic! (We had a great group of people cooking with us). Highly recommend to anyone that visits Marrakech.
The cooking class at La Maison Arabe was outstanding and extremely well run! We thoroughly enjoyed the Moroccan bread making and the Moroccan mint tea making experience. After this we went into the super modern and amazingly decorated (Moroccan style) cooking school. Everything was prepared and ready for us to start cooking our chicken tagine and salad. Our Dada (chef) was very professional and we could even watch her cooking the dish we were making on our own tv screens in case anyone got lost. Once we had cooked our dishes we went to sit outside in the beautiful garden and enjoyed our Moroccan dishes with a lovely glass of red/white or rose wine! I would highly recommend this cook school all staff were exceptional and it is a very well run school!
A unique and lovely experience! My husband and I love peaceful and intimate places and so the cooking class was perfect for us. The chef was great too! We had tea, we had a great conversation, they also shared with us the history of the art works around the kitchen. We definitely felt the culture through the surroundings, the kitchen and the utensils used. They were so lovely. We were taught to cook traditional local cuisines and we loved it! We were laughing when we got to eat everything we made by the fireplace, just like a date. Overall, they deserve five stars!
La Maison Arabe have definitely gotten this right! Came here with my sister and daughter and had really fabulous experience. We started off with the lovely Prof. Mohammed N giving us a lesson in spices and the real way to make Moroccan tea. We then proceeded to learn how to make a semolina bread, chicken and lemon tagine and 2 types of salads - cooked and fresh. The cooking part was super fun as was the eating! Fatima was a truly entertaining and instructive teacher. Would most definitely recommend!
Informative, lots of fun and a good meal at the end!
Enjoyable, relaxed and informative class led by wonderful staff in a beautiful setting.
Very informative, great for beginners or intermediates. Highly recommend.
The young guy who hosted us was fun, friendly, helpful, and informative. He made understanding about Moroccan culture fun. The ladies who guided us through the cooking were sweet and total Masters! I guess this is why my food was super delicious 😊 It was also a pleasant surprise to get a tangine at the end, what a reward!
We took a trip to a local bakery and heard how people bring their prepared loaves in to be baked in the wood fired oven. Returned to class for a show and smell of spices. Then in the kitchen, we each had our own well equipped stations and got to make 3 separate dishes which we then ate. My only criticism: the knives at my station were dull. Highly recommended!
Superb! We had such fun. Our teachers were perfect and great company. The atmosphere and cooking environment were amazing and the food we made tasted great. Will cook it all again at home! Honestly great value for money when you factor in that the we had a fun three-hour experience and the food you make is a meal in itself.
Fantastic course leadership and great facilities at Le Maison Arabe. A course that touches both key ingredients but also allows you to put the learnings into practice. Fun and friendly and worth every penny. Marvellous community feel to end of course lunch.
Perfect amount of time! Very thorough and a nice token at the end of the class.
Great class to get when you go to Morocco. It will prepare you on knowing what you are ordering on your other days.
This was the highlight of my trip to Marrakech. I had never taken a cooking class before and I followed it easily.
Great instruction, very knowledgeable staff, fun environment and met some great like minded people.
Loved the experience. I learned lots about local food in a clean and comfortable environment
the experience has been incredible, we could learn so much about the maroccan tradition in cooking listening to a very passionate teacher. the cooking class has been inspiring, the teacher has been very patient. awesome group also, I would do it again!
If you are thinking about doing a cooking class in La Maison Arabe, don't think, DO it!! It was overall and amazing and joyful 3 hours cooking class that past so fast. From the greeting at the arrival, the introduction of the Moroccan cuisine and spices, to finally sit at the rooftop and eat the food you have made with lovely live Gnaoua music in the back ground. But the biggest highlight of the day is without a doubt Hana and Fatiha, our instructors at the class, you where AMAZING and I am sure it wouldn't have been so joyful if it wasn't for you :) Regards Jamilla, Teresa, Salma and Magdalena
Really good session
Definitely the best activity we did in Marrakech. The setting was beautiful and you really learn how to use the typical morroccan ingredients. I would really recommend it!
It was an amazing experience. I recommend anybody that is into cooking to experience this class. The food that we cooked also turned out really good. I am excited about replicating the things Ive learned. Also I loved the parting gifts where all the participants were given the recipes and a small tagine to take home.
I highly recommend this cooking class to anyone who wants to learn about Moroccan cuisine. From start to finish you are well taken care of. My mother and I had a lovely dinner and enjoyed meeting other travellers. We had a blast! Thank you for everything Mohammed, Ayada and Khadijaaaaa ^_^
The cooking class is very well prepared, in a beautiful place out of the city. They show you the traditional oven, tea ceremony and then you cook with the fantastic dada! Chop chop! 😉
Great environment, patient and pleasant instructor. Kept at our pace to make sure that we got it right
We had a great time at La Maison Arabe, and the whole thing was just splendidly organized, down to the individual tv-screens to follow the tutor chef up close. The building and dining room are gorgeous and visiting the local bakery was a treat. Only criticism concerns the tools. Some knives we used were far from sharp, which made certain steps a little tricky. But big thanks to our host and chef!
This class was fun, interesting and informative. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
Very friendly staff. Sense of humour spirit. Wonderful cookings.
Good introduction to Morrocan cooking - even for someone with no previous knowledge. It's difficult to cook for one - as evidenced by the size of the couscous prepared - mine was great, but I ate a third. It's one of the best activities un Marrakech.
It was very good experience for me and enjoyed it! If I go there, Morocco surly I will join again. Thank you kimi Orr
The dishes we made were some of the same ones we are several times during our trip. Hands down the food we prepared was the best we ate on our nine day stay here.
The story of La Maison Arabe began in the 1930’s when two enterprising French women, Hélène SébillonLarochette and her daughter, Suzy, settled in Marrakech. In 1946, the pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, granted them the right to establish the first restaurant open to foreigners in the medina. He provided them with one of his best dadas – traditional Moroccan chefs – from his palace’s kitchens to teach them the intricacies of the local cuisine.
La Maison Arabe enjoyed an immediate success and quickly became “the” place to dine in Marrakech. Winston Churchill, who came often to the red city in his later years and stay at the legendary Mamounia, would dine regularly at La Maison Arabe. The restaurant’s other illustrious guests included Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Charles de Gaulle, Jackie Kennedy and the Aga Khan. In 1994 Fabrizio Ruspoli, a descendant of a noble Roman family, acquired the property as well as several adjoining riad buildings. After three years of renovation work, La Maison Arabe reopened in late-1997 as the first riad-hotel in Marrakech. Nineteen years later, it is estimated there are over 800. Today La Maison Arabe boasts 26 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a world-renowned cooking school, a wellness center, and two swimming pools: one on-site in the medina and another at a luxuriant country retreat several minutes away from the medina, reserved exclusively for hotel guests
