What did the ancient Romans eat? Where did they eat? And how did food businesses deal with the food consumption of one of the biggest cities of the Roman Empire?
Our tour wants you to discover all of this while we explore the food and drinking habits of the ancient citizens of Pompeii. Lead by our licensed guides, you will walk through the ancient city looking at the old wine yards where great wine is still produced. We will visit different examples of commercial establishments, including inns and snack bars. We'll see examples "domus", ancient Roman dwellings, and their typical dining rooms. We'll explore one of the more than 30 bakeries that exited in Pompeii with their oven and the millstones still clearly visible. We'll even see the remains of charred bread found during excavations!
After the tour, just a few steps away, we'll head to a typical Neapolitan pizzeria. Here you will be able to taste some of the local wines, discovering indigenous grapes, some dating back thousands of years. As per Neapolitan tradition, wine has to be accompanied by food. During the wine tasting, we will bring you typical Neapolitan dishes properly made by the kitchen staff so you can enjoy your aperitivo time.
