Indonesian Cooking Class with Chef Dewi

Over ons

In this cooking class, Caraway Bali will introduce you to traditional and local ingredients and spices. We will also guide you in making herbal mixtures yourself and how to prepare the most authentic Indonesian and Balinese dishes. 

The class will provide plenty of time to get to know each other and Chef Dewi and get to talk about Balinese culture and eating habits. The chef will be assisted by one or more assistants to help you prepare the dishes. This class is very interactive so you will be actively helping with each process to cook these dishes. 

After the cooking class, we will have the opportunity to eat the prepared dishes together. If you prefer, your dishes can also be taken home to enjoy. You will also receive the recipes from the cooking class so that you can put all the skills and techniques you learned into practice once you return home.

Menu

Monday and Tuesday

• Chicken Betutu - Steamed or roasted chicken in spice mix
• Fish Pepes - Fish wrap in banana leaf
• Vegetables Urap - Salad with seasoned and spiced grated coconut for dressing
• Spring roll
• Lupis - Sweet rice cake topped with palm sugar syrup and coconut

Wednesday and Friday

• Beef Rendang - Spicy stew with coconut milk
• Chicken Satay - Grilled chicken skewered
• Kering Tempe - Sweet fried soybean cake
• Spring roll
• Sweet coconut pancake roll

Thursday (Vegetarian)

• Vegetable curry
• Mushroom Pepes - Grilled mushroom wrapped in banana leaf
• Pecel with vegetables - Indonesian style peanut salad dressing
• Spring roll
• Kolak - Sweet potato and banana in coconut milk

Saturday

• Chicken Curry
• Stir-fried Sambal with potato and tofu
• Sweet spicy fried tempeh
• Spring roll
• Rice pudding

Vegetarian menu is available. Water, tea and coffee are free.

Schema

Morning Class

• 8:30 am: Meet at Caraway Cooking Class
• 8:40 am: Introduction from Chef Dewi about our school, culture, and the food we are cooking
• 9:00 am: Begin the hands-on cooking class
• 12:30 pm: Finish off the day and our driver will take you back to your hotel or villa

Afternoon Class

• 3:00 pm: Meet at Caraway Cooking Class
• 3:10 pm: Introduction from Chef Dewi about our school, culture, and the food we are cooking 
• 3:30 pm: Begin the hands-on cooking class
• 7:00 pm: Finnish off the day and our driver will take you back to your hotel or villa
