Choose Your Own Moroccan Menu with a Traditional Market (Souk) Tour

My family of three booked this class, and we were lucky enough to be the only ones signed up that day so we got a real one-in-one experience. The chef and her translator were wonderful, and we all had a great time. I loved that they give you a recipe book to take home.

We spent a great morning (and a bit in the afternoon) learning techniques of the Moroccan cuisine. Fatima Zahra and Mehdi were very kind and great hosts and open to explain The space is comfortable and appropriate and we recommend it.

A lovely way to learn some great recipes which will certainly be tried again at home. Simple, authentic, home cooking. A relaxed experience, welcomed with good coffee and time to enjoy a mint lemonade while the tagine cooked away.

Für unseren letzten Tag in Marrakesch haben wir spontan den Kochkurs im Clock gebucht. War eine sehr gute Entscheidung. Wir waren zu zweit mit dem Koch Mohammed und dem Barista Medi. Medi war da, weil Mohammed sich mit dem Englischen noch nicht ganz sicher fühlt. Er spricht es mittlerweile jedoch so gut, dass es Medi nicht gebraucht hätte. Jedenfalls zum übersetzen, als Gesellschaft beim Kurs war er eine große Bereicherung. Wir suchten zunächst die Speisen aus und gingen dann los zum einkaufen. Die kleine Einkaufstour war ein tolles Erlebnis. Wir haben einiges über das lokale Einkaufen gelernt und hatten viel Spaß. Nach dem Einkauf haben wir erstmal gemeinsam einen spiced coffee getrunken und dann ging es auch schon los. Ein war ein entspanntes und lustiges schnibbeln und rühren. Wir haben einiges über die marokkanische Küche aber auch die Kultur in Marokko erfahren. Das essen war lecker und wir haben einen schönen Tag verlebt. Wir würden den Kurs jedem empfehlen, der gern mit Einheimischen etwas unternehmen möchte. Ein besonders fähiger Koch muss man dabei nicht sein. Wenn man aber einer ist, dann kann man noch einiges dazu lernen!

This is such a great cooking class, for many reasons. You get to pick the menu as a class, and then you go to the local shops where Mohammed gave us a great little tour of the area and helped us buy spices. The class is a great combination of learning, food and fun. There were only 3 of us in our class. I was very impressed that Mohammed didnt cancel the class, or try to move us to a different day. Learned alot and had a great time with my Scottish companions! If you are in Marrakech this is a must do!

Wir haben die Vormittagsklasse gebucht und waren nur zu 4. und somit nur unter uns mit dem Kochlehrer. Zunächst wurde uns ein Tisch zugewiesen, damit wir bei einer Tasse Tee und Wasser aus dem Menü für jeden Gang ein Gericht auswählen konnten. Danach ging es nebenan zum Einkaufen. Ich persönlich würde die kleine Gasse nicht als Markt bezeichnen, jedoch wird bei Einheimischen eingekauft und es war trotzdem interessant. Danach bereiteten wir die ersten Gänge zu, zwischendurch wurde uns auch gezeigt wie unser Lehrer Brot nach dem Rezept seiner Mutter herstellt, welches wir zwischendurch mit Butter und Marmelade essen konnten. Nach der Vorspeise, der Suppe und dem Hauptgang haben wir noch die Nachspeise finalisiert. Bereits vor Ort wies ich den Lehrer daraufhin, dass ich das Gefühl habe, das im Rezeptbuch (bekommt man dann mit) Zutaten, etc. fehlen, was verneint wurde. Nachdem ich die Rezepte zu Hause übersetzen und niederschreiben wollte bin ich mir nun ganz sicher, dass Zutaten als auch Zubereitungsschritte fehlen, daher 1 Stern Abzug. Ich werde die Schule nochmals kontaktieren und hoffe sehr, dass zumindest die Rezepte die wir gekocht haben nochmals komplett an uns übermittelt werden. First, we were assigned a table so that we could select a dish for each course with a cup of tea and water from the menu. Then it went next door for shopping. Personally, I would not call the small lane a market, but it is bought by locals and it was still interesting. Then we prepared the first courses, in between we were also shown how our teacher makes bread according to the recipe of his mother, which we could eat in between with butter and jam. After the appetizer, the soup and the main course, we have finalized the dessert. Already on site, I pointed out to the teacher that I have the feeling that in the recipe book (you get along with) ingredients, etc. are missing, which was denied. After I had to translate the recipes at home and wrote down I am now quite sure that ingredients and preparation steps are missing, therefore 1 star deduction. I will contact the school again and I very much hope that at least the recipes that we have cooked will be completely transmitted to us again.

I had so much fun meeting other travelers, sharing the kitchen with them and the chef. And we learned how to make a delicious meal, and then sat down together to eat. It was a lovely day and I highly recommend it!

Our hosts were amazing, so friendly and happily answered all of our questions about the local culture. Great value for money and a wonderful day well spent. We were able to take home all of the recipes so I will definitely be making them again! Thank you!

I'm glad I did this! It's a great way to get a little perspective on Moroccan food. We went to some local stalls to buy the ingredients and see the different spices, and then we prepared a starter, soup, 2 main dishes, and dessert. And you get some good tea and coffee. Our chef and assistant were very helpful and friendly, and it was a fun, interactive environment where the whole group got to know each other.

Having the opportunity to visit the souk to buy the food we were going to use in our recipes was such a treat. But, actually preparing a traditional meal was the highlight of my trip to Marrakech. Mohammed was AWESOME!

Mohammed was cool, knowledgeable, generous. He gave us good tips, helped us buy spices and tagines for the best price. We cooked great food and lots of it. We were also offered breakfast when we arrived and different drinks to taste throughout. Great experience!

Both the chef and the translator were friendly and knowledgable about the cuisine and about morracan culture. I would recommend that this is a definite place to see in Marrakesh.

Our professionals and our group were wonderful. Nice pace which allowed us to absorb as much as we could.

Mohammed was very informative. I think for me one of the best things was going out and sourcing the ingredients that we needed. The shop keepers were very friendly and I loved being part of local life. Our food that we made was so delicious and it was great how we all had to muck in to do things. It was also lovely to sit down at the end of the course to eat our food. Thank you very much I really took a feel of Marrakesh home with me and I hope to recreate some of the food that we made.

Cafe Clock's Moroccan Menu with a Souk Tour was really well planned and led with clear guidance and love for cooking. Mohammed did such a great job including each of the participants and answering all our questions. He also shared extra tips from his Grandmother, previous classes and all his experience. We highly recommend this course - you will NOT be disappointed!

This was a great activity for taking a little break from the souks and other busy areas while still experiencing Morocco. Our chef-instructor was fun and friendly, and he spoke English well (a real help given that, unfortunately, we do not speak Arabic or French). Walking together in the nearby market to purchase ingredients for our meal was a nice way to start, and our instructor helped us buy spices (without any pressure to buy things). The class size was small, a total of five students and one instructor, which allowed everyone to participate in preparing the food and to get to know each other a bit. The kitchen was clean and well-maintained. The meal was delicious and filling. Overall, we are happy we did this.

Chef Mohammed was phenomenal. He took the time to explain every step. His stories and friendly manner was very refreshing. The market tour was very interesting we did not feel rushed at all. When he knew we like Msemen (square-shaped Moroccan pancakes) he stopped at let us watch the lady make them and he bought freshly made ones for us! Needless to say that the cooking class was fantastic, answered all our questions(which were many) and even took us to the spice shop (second time around) so we could buy our spices. We got to eat the food we cooked alongside with delicious milkshakes and coffee. If you are in Marrakech and want to take a cooking class this is a MUST you won't regret it! I have been to many cooking classes around the world and this class tops it for skills along with hospitality. Chef Mohammed clearly loves what he does. My family and I wished we had more time in Marrakech to go back and visit their restaurant or maybe take another cooking class!

I fell in love with Morrocco, their people, culture and especially their food (special mention to tajine dish!). And so I need to learn to cook them and I had a great cooking class and I even got to familiarize their local market after the souk tour! It was a fun packed experience. The chef was so friendly that he gave us all confidence in cooking Morroccan dishes and taught us traditional techniques. High respect to the dishes as it was so time honored.

We had a great day with Rashida, the chef, and our translator (Baptista?) who gave us not only a great opportunity to learn about Morroccan cuisine but to also understand more about their country and life. Would thoroughly recommend!

The class was amazing! I learned so much about the Moroccan way of cooking and even the culture in Morocco. The whole day I had so much fun and everyone was so nice. I left the cooking class full of delicious food, so much knowledge and new friends too!

Mohommad was the epitome of perfection when teaching us the ways of Moroccan cooking. We had the best day and enjoyed every moment. If you’re visiting Marrakech, this is a must do!!

We had a great cooking class - it was only the 2 of us in the class which was even better as we had plenty of time to talk through the dishes. Ibtissame and fatimazzahra were both great instructors and made sure we understood everything and were always offering us refreshments. Would definitely recommend as a great activity to do in Marrakesh!

This cooking class lived up to expectations! While everyone in the class had to cook the same meal we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The meal was among the best we had while in Morocco and we highly recommend this experience.

We were given this cooking class as a wedding present and I can honestly say it was the highlight of our honeymoon. We love food, and like travelled based on food so we were really looking forward to this. We were given a choice of 4 dishes to cook and the range of choice was really good. I was expecting just to cook 1 dish, which I was fine about. THen, we went to shop for our ingredients , whilst being explained about different types of meat etc. The chef, Mohammad, was really helpful, friendly, engaging and he was eager to tell us about his experience and different dishes. We actually cooked a dish that wasn’t on the menu but he recommended which was lovely. He was there every step but we cooked everything and the food was delicious. We were also gifted with a local tradition they do when a couple marry which was an extra touch and we really appreciated. The atmosphere was informal and relaxed which helped . The day flew by. We were also given the menu to take home with us. A wonderful day! Thank you!

Khalid and Maloud were amazing teachers. They made the class fun, and answered any questions we had. It was an experience I won't ever forget!

Me and my friend did half a day cooking class at Clock Cafe with Mohammed. It was one of our highlights in Marrakech. Mohammed is a great chef who knows what he’s talking about and teaches in a fun and chilled way. There’s enough time to learn about the Marrocan kitchen but also to chill in the sun at the terrace when all the delicious ingrediënts are marinating, boiling or heating up in the oven. Also the trip to the local shops in the neighbourhood to get all the fresh goodies is super nice and a great way to meet the locals and ask all the questions you want. And above all... the food was just amazing! The best we had in Marrakech and how cool is it if you know you made it yourself!! :) I just loved this class. Thanks Mohamed for your knowledge, fun and help.

This was a great decision for the family to spend the day learning how to cook the Moroccan way with Mohamed and the Clock Team. Our teenage son and daughter loved it and we all learned a lot about the local spices and cooking techniques. Definitely recommend this.

We just took the class at Cafe Clock yesterday and can highly recommend it! Nice little inside view into the local shopping, great dishes to choose from and good fun guidance throughout the whole course! Not to mention the hospitality we experienced all day at the cafe (the classes are run during normal business hours when cafe is open to public but in a seperate kitchen)! Be sure that other guests of Cafe Clock will be envy on the lunch you prepare. Great hosts on top! We highly recommend it and will do it again when we return to Marrakech!

After a bit of research we discovered this class and it was the best choice. The people in the cafe were very nice. The welcomed us with a refreshing drink upstairs, while me any the rest of the group were discussing the menu for the day. Chef Mohammad is a very, very talented chef and advised us about the choices we could make. He even gave us an extra main dish as my friend is vegetarian - which was really nice. We went on the small shopping tour and i took the chance to buy spices there instead of the touristic places. The shop people were also very helpful. After returning we started with the class, the explanations were very helpful and the result was also great. It was the best food i ate in Morroco! This class is highly recommended! After a long search for cooking classes in Marrakech, and with plenty of options we picked this class for it's flixibile menu. We arrived to the clock cafe and was amazed with the interior and the amount of art in the place. Chef Mohammed welcomed us and served some drinks while discussing the menu. The menu is more of a recipe book with ingredients and everything. We picked our dishes, went to the kitchen and the learning journey started. Chef Mohammed was very informative, it was a combination of a history, culture and good food. I highly recommend this class and for sure will visit again for the paisrty class.
