Truly a cooking class like no other. The chef takes you to a bunch of local vendors in the neighbourhood, which are all happy to see you :), pick up all the fresh ingredients, meats, fish, learn more about popular herbs and condiments. Then hands on the cooking starts! The chef and assistants have already prepared the cooking station and the chef then explains each cooking technique needed to make the dish. We made: - Bánh Xèo: Crispy Vietnamese pancake with a savoury filling, rolled in spring role with perfect dipping sauce using kumquat to perfectly balance. - Bun Cha: BBQ marinated pork with a dipping sauce and fresh noodles all from scratch then carefully grilled by the chefs assistant over charcoal - Banana flower salad: learned the proper cutting technique, how to make the salad nice an crunchy topped with peanuts this was truly a delight! - Egg Coffee: Special request from me because I fell in love with this type of sweet coffee created in Hanoi. Honestly this was the best cooking class I've ever done, especially because of the skill level of the chef, would recommend 100%.
We had a really wonderful time walking in the market with Rose and identifying unfamiliar herbs and vegetables while picking up fresh supplies for our cooking class. Rose's English is great, and she is very knowledgeable. The cooking was fun and informative. We are excited to try and replicate at home! She answered all our questions both regarding food and about other cultural aspects of Vietnam. We would love to do another class with her! Can't recommend this enough!
We would highly recommend the ‘Roll with Local’ food experience with Rose! The visit to the market was sensational and we were able to ask Rose all the questions we had about Vietnamese ingredients - and their names in English for when we want to recreate some of these incredible dishes at home! Rose was extremely energetic and so passionate about sharing her love of Vietnamese cuisine! We loved the personalised cooking lesson, and we relished the chance to enjoy what we had made. Our only advice is don’t have a big breakfast that day as you will need to save room for all the amazing dishes Rose has taught you to prepare! A definite trip highlight for Hanoi!
We really enjoyed our class with Rose. We visited the market near her home. She explained about all the ingredients and gave great tips on selecting produce. Rose was friendly and engaging. The recipes we easy to follow and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. Barbecuing pork for Bún Chả on her rooftop balcony was a highlight.
