Indonesian Cooking Class with Market Tour

In this experience, Caraway Bali will introduce you to traditional and local ingredients and spices. We will also guide you in making herbal mixtures yourself and how to prepare the most authentic Indonesian and Balinese dishes. 

This morning class starts with a trip to the local Sanur market. All markets in Bali are open very early in the morning. These food markets are the best way to introduce to you our Bali food culture. We will explain to you about all of the Balinese tastes, spices, local fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish. During the market visit, you will also have a chance to taste the different products offered. This way you will get to know the Balinese way of market trading and get to compare it to the markets you are used to from your country. 

After the market tour, we will go back to the cooking school to begin preparing the traditional dishes. We will guide you through each step of cooking the dishes before sitting down for a buffet lunch to enjoy everything made in the course. 

Menu

Monday and Tuesday

• Chicken Betutu - Steamed or roasted chicken in spice mix
• Fish Pepes - Fish wrap in banana leaf
• Vegetables Urap - Salad with seasoned and spiced grated coconut for dressing
• Spring roll
• Lupis - Sweet rice cake topped with palm sugar syrup and coconut

Wednesday and Friday

• Beef Rendang - Spicy stew with coconut milk
• Chicken Satay - Grilled chicken skewers
• Kering Tempe - Sweet fried soybean cake
• Spring roll
• Sweet coconut pancake roll

Thursday (Vegetarian)

• Vegetable curry
• Mushroom Pepes - Grilled mushroom wrapped in banana leaf
• Pecel with vegetables - Indonesian style peanut salad dressing
• Spring roll
• Kolak - Sweet potato and banana in coconut milk

Saturday

• Chicken Curry
• Stir-fried Sambal with potato and tofu
• Sweet spicy fried tempeh
• Spring roll
• Rice pudding

Programme

• 8:30 am: Pick up from your hotel
• 8:40 am: Begin the market tour
• 9:30 am: Return to the cooking school to start preparing and cooking
• 11:30 am: Buffet lunch together eating the food that we cooked
• 12:30 pm: Finish off the day and our driver will take you back to your hotel or villa
