In the Tabanan Regency you will meet your local food expert, Will Meyrick, or one of the head chefs from his restaurants.

As the owner and chef of some of Bali’s best and most authentic restaurants Will Meyrick is a well respect name across the country and – without a doubt – one of the most respected maestros of the South East Asian food scene. Will continues to explore the culinary landscape of Asia, taking inspiration from the unique food culture of each destination. You’ll find him at street stalls, in neighborhood kitchens and backyards, at markets, getting off the beaten track to get to the heart of the dishes that move and shake him, tracking down the original recipes that are handed down through generations.

Today’s cooking class portrays his philosophy of introducing local produce to a wider audience. He has been developing relationships with local farmers utilizing their produce in his restaurants over the past years. In honoring these relationships, we would like to invite you to be a part of an authentic Balinese life through a day trip that combines scouring a traditional market for fresh ingredients, easy cycling, a private cooking class conducted by your renown chef and a few more exciting activities.

You will cycle through the regency’s rice terraces and rivers with fresh water flowing through the “subak” system to water the paddy fields. You will also see picturesque villages framed by mountains with quiet roads and traditional houses during the trip. Upon arrival at the market, you will enjoy a real Balinese breakfast before you continue to transfer to the cooking class site at Canggu.

Schedule

• 6:15 am: Departure from your hotel/villa (departure time may vary)
• 7:00 am: Arrival at Belayu, Marga Tabanan, Have morning coffee and a short briefing 
• 7:30 am: Visit a traditional Balinese family temple and experience the cultural activities
• 8:00 am: Briefing about the bikes/routes and sign the disclaimer form
• 8:15 am: Departure for cycling through magnificent views of rice fields and Balinese Villages toward Mengwi’s traditional market
• 9:00 am: Arrival at Mengwi morning market to do the market tour
• 10:00 am: Breakfast at the market - Balinese Nasi Campur
• 10:45 am: Transfer in an air-conditioned car to Canggu Cooking Retreat in Canggu for your cooking class
• 11:00 am: Arrive at Canggu Cooking Retreat in Canggu
• 11:20 am: Cooking Class starts
• 11:30 am: Head chef will demonstrate how to cook “Gilimanuk” style Chicken Betutu and you will cook 5 Balinese dishes
• 1:30 pm: End of the cooking class and prepare for lunch
• 2:30 pm: The program will finish
• 3:00 pm: Return transfer to the pick up point.
